Donald Dubh, born c.1400, is generally accepted as being the first authentic Chief. Sir Ewen Cameron (1629-1719) was probably the greatest of the Cameron Chiefs and Donald Cameron - the Gentle Lochiel (1695-1746) is known for his loyal support for Prince Charles Edward Stuart in the 1745 rising. In recent times, Sir Donald H Cameron, KT, XXVI Chief (1910-2004) will be remembered for providing outstanding leadership to the Clan Cameron, travelling the globe to attend Clan Cameron events.

The Clan Cameron Tartan

Apart from the first, all Cameron tartans have a distinctive gold line within their various designs: Clan Cameron; Cameron of Erracht (linked to the 79th or Queens Own Cameron Highlanders); Hunting Cameron and a few variations including one for the Taylor sept. The Lochiel tartan is worn only by members of the family.
